MY APPROACH

Wedding photography should be a reflection of your individuality. I enjoy capturing the personalities, interactions and emotions, which combine to make your wedding unique and memorable. With attention to light and composition, I try to make each image beautiful and interesting.

While emphasizing candid photography, I am also successful at taking formal shots that have a natural, animated feeling. I aim for creativity in my portraits, and take cues from the subject’s personality when deciding how to photograph. My manner is relaxed and amiable, so my presence will be welcome and non-intrusive.

FREE CONSULTATION

I am committed to working closely with you to insure that I capture the important highlights of your wedding. In planning the photography for the day, I view my role as your creative consultant who is there to help you realize your vision.

Prior to the date of your wedding, you are invited to meet with me to discuss the pictures you hope to see. I will draw on my years of wedding experience to help you develop a schedule for creative portraits of you and your wedding party, as well as family photos.   I can suggest ideas and locations from an artistic perspective for beautiful and interesting photography.

CREATIVE PORTRAITS

Taking creative portraits of the bride and groom is one of my favorite parts of the day. After I’ve had a chance to get to know you at our consultation meeting, I like to develop ideas for how to photograph you that seem suited to your personalities.  I will often make a special trip to your planned wedding location to seek out the best angles to shoot, and to come up with suggestions about when and where the lighting looks best. I normally shoot the portraits in a few different settings to get a good variety.  Depending on your preferences, I might photograph some formal poses of the bride and groom, in addition to arranging natural and artistic portraits.

Wedding party shots also have a great amount of potential for fun and creativity.   As with the Bride & Groom shots, I will seek out photogenic locations to shoot various arrangements of you with your bridesmaids and groomsmen.  And if you don’t have a wedding party, we can do the same sort of thing with your friends.

PHOTOJOURNALISTIC DOCUMENTATION

For much of your wedding, I will be focused on taking candid, photojournalistic-style shots as events unfold.  From the bridal preparations and family gathering before the ceremony to the dancing late into the night, I will photograph the scenes that tell the story of your unique wedding experience.  During the ceremony I work hard to quietly capture great images of the key moments, while remaining respectful of you and your guests.  Throughout the day, I make an effort to take flattering and fun pictures of as many of your guests as I can.

FAMILY PHOTOS

Some couples love ‘em, and some not so much, but there seems to be a universal demand for them amongst parents and grandparents.  With diligent planning and preparation I make sure the family photography flows smoothly.  I will arrange family members to form an appealing composition, but I avoid excessive posing, which can lead to stiff expressions.   With several snaps of the shutter, and occasional reminders to breathe, I am very successful at capturing genuinely happy and natural expressions.

THE ALBUM

Depending on the length of coverage, the deluxe album will contain 60 – 100 of the best prints assembled in a beautiful, high quality archival Renaissance brand library bound book.  I carefully arrange the photographs chronologically, and edit for flow and aesthetics to present a complete photojournalistic documentation of your wedding.

FILM OR DIGITAL?

I am happy to shoot either film or digital.  Regardless of your choice you will receive hundreds of beautiful black & white and color photographs.  I use top-of-the-line professional equipment for both film and digital weddings.  With the digital option, you receive a complete set of high-resolution digital negatives on archival DVDs.  With the film option, you receive the complete set of film negatives. There are only a couple of differences between having me shoot your wedding with film and digital.

The reasons for choosing digital:

  • Ease with e-mailing, web posting and printing on a home printer
  • Digital web gallery, with the option for friends and family to order online. (The web gallery and image disc are also available when you choose film, however this costs a bit extra due to scanning expenses.)

The reason for choosing film:

  • I use multiple cameras, each of which creates a unique effect:  my Hasselblad creates a classic fine-art look, my Canons create a photojournalistic look, and I use a toy camera to create quirky and surprising photos.  I shoot a mix of color and black & white film, and I can shoot infrared film upon request.
