Photo contributions to artist Heidi Schwegler's new catalog
I have enjoyed taking photos for artist Heidi Schwegler over the past several years. Her art is featured in a fantastic exhibit at Marylurst University's Art Gym gallery until May 15, 2015. It is a sort of mid-career retrospective with work made between 2004 and 2015, and is accompanied by a beautiful catalog published by Marylhurst, which includes several photos of Heidi's sculptures taken by me. I really enjoy the mixed sensation I get of being surprised, shocked and amused by Ms. Schwegler's work. Definitely a must-see for you art-lovers.
Photos for Amazon Restaurants
I did a fun and delicious month-long project photographing food at Portland restaurants for Amazon. Amazon just released a new product called Amazon Restaurants. Amazon Prime subscribers can order food from a large list of local restaurants and have it delivered within an hour without price mark-ups or delivery charges.
I took photos at about 20 restaurants, and wanted to share some of my favorite shots, and favorite dishes.
Homous - Aladin's Cafe. Good food, great presentation.
Bibim Box - Kim Jong Grillin'. Delicious Korean Barbecue from a critically acclaimed food truck.
Happy Family - Dragonwell Bistro. It's the best Chinese food I've had in a long time. Tastes yummy, and healthy-- they don't go nuts with the salt, sugar or batter. Very nice ambience. Specializing in cuisine of the Hangzhou region of Southern China.
Aina Burger with Crispy Pork Belly - Ate-Oh-Ate. Oh yeah.
Locks Plate - Batter Griddle & Drinkery. I didn't eat this one, but it sure looks pretty.
California Burrito - Tacos Chavez. I was shocked at how good this burrito was, stuffed with steak, french fries and all. I highly recommend this restaurant, which has a humble exterior, but good quality Mexican food inside.
House Special Pizza - Old Town Pizza. Really good pizza, great ambience. The building is supposedly haunted.
General Tso's Chicken - Dragonwell Bistro. I brought some home to share with my family. My 2-year-old son Charlie loved it and said he wanted some more "Big Toe Chicken."
Cookie for dessert - Frice Pastry.
Photos at Tilde - update
Debbe, owner of Tilde in the Selwood neighborhood, asked me back to take more photos of the store. This time, we were able to work around the rain, and capture a great shot of the store front, as well as an additional interior shot. See the photos from the first session in an earlier blog entry: Photos of Tilde.
Photos at Tilde
I had a great time with store owner Debbe and merchandising specialist Julie last week taking interior shots of Tilde, a modern lifestyle shop and art gallery in the Sellwood neighborhood of Portland, specializing in products such as artwork, jewelry, handbags and accessories made by artists and small design shops. As luck would have it, we picked the first rainy day in weeks, so we had to reschedule for the exterior photo.
